ABSTRACT:
Today, more than ever, the role of higher education institutions is not only limited to train qualified specialists, graduates or conduct academic research, but as well as to facilitate the implementation of the “entrepreneurial university” concept through the development of innovation and business ideas among the students and academic staff. Nowadays, effective collaboration between universities and industries could lead to the effective implementation of the Entrepreneurial Education concept. Therefore, higher education institutions in the last decade have changed their role from fulfilling teaching functions to more research and innovation oriented. In this respect, the systematic and continuous cooperation among academic institutions and industries could lead to the development of the educational and research sphere, as well as entail the evolvement of the economic and innovative capacities of both partners. This study aims to find out how the University-industry collaboration could lead to the development of Entrepreneurial Education. In the framework of this research have been conducted expert interviews with the administrative staff of responsible institutional departments (R&D units, Faculty, Entrepreneurship Development Centers) at six universities of the Republic of Armenia, in order find out the main collaboration channels, motivations and constraints, the scope of activities in the framework of Entrepreneurial Education.
Considering the different approaches of channels classifications, and the peculiarities of cooperation in the observed local universities, a group of collaboration channels have been developed using a hierarchical approach that can ideally impact on the implementation of Entrepreneurial education. This research also contributes to the development of some criteria’s to assess the impact, practical applicability, and expediency of each collaboration channel. This study is also about how to overcome constraints and difficulties from the perspective of academic institutions. Moreover, the suggestions and policy development indicators would be presented to overcome the collaboration constraints and obstacles.
