Methodological Value of a Mobile Application in Learning and Teaching the Croatian Language
Zrinka Vukojević, Nataša Rogulja
ABSTRACT:
The development of information and communication technology and its increasing presence in education open up new opportunities for language learning and teaching. Mobile applications, as part of contemporary digital tools, enable the use of multimedia and interactive content that can contribute to more active learning and more effective acquisition of language content in primary education. The aim of this paper is to examine the methodological value of a mobile application in learning and teaching the Croatian language from the perspective of students of teacher education programmes.
The research is based on the application of a questionnaire designed for the purposes of this study, which examines students’ attitudes and evaluations of the methodological appropriateness of the mobile application, its multimedia and interactive features, and the possibilities of its implementation in Croatian language teaching. Special attention is paid to the assessment of the applicability of the mobile application in learning spelling and grammatical content, the development of reading comprehension and functional literacy, as well as the possibilities of formative monitoring of students’ progress.
The paper is based on the assumption that methodologically grounded and purposeful use of mobile applications can play an important role in contemporary Croatian language teaching, emphasizing the need for a thoughtful selection of digital tools in accordance with teaching objectives and learning outcomes.
