Enhancing College Students’ Information Literacy Skills through Assignment Redesign and Revision

ABSTRACT: 

Living in the age of information, beyond traditional literacy skills, college students need to become information literate. According to the American Library Association, information literacy is “a set of abilities requiring individuals to recognize when information is needed and have the ability to locate, evaluate, and use effectively the needed information.” Many models for teaching information literacy have been developed such as James Herring’s PLUS approach. Using the frame work of PLUS model, this paper will describe how university instructors can help students exercise their information literacy skills through assignment redesign and revision.
