ABSTRACT:
This presentation explores student silence in online EFL classrooms, often misinterpreted as disengagement. It argues that silence may reflect cognitive, emotional, or instructional factors. It examines student-related challenges, reasons for reduced motivation, and the role of teacher beliefs in interpreting silence. Finally, it presents practical strategies and sample tasks to enhance engagement in online EFL learning.
