Pedagogical Alignment and Teaching Innovation in the Age of Artificial Intelligence: A Literature Review and Conceptual Framework
Dr. Noha A. Alaa El Dine
ABSTRACT:
The integration of artificial intelligence (AI), particularly generative AI, into education is accelerating, reshaping instructional delivery, assessment, and feedback mechanisms. However, research indicates that AI adoption frequently lacks pedagogical coherence, potentially undermining learning outcomes. This paper argues that sustainable teaching innovation in the AI era must be grounded in pedagogical alignment, ensuring AI use supports learning objectives rather than automating instructional tasks. Using a systematic narrative literature review, the study synthesizes scholarship on AI-enhanced pedagogy, teacher AI literacy, instructional design, assessment, and ethical considerations. A comparative synthesis of major pedagogical learning approaches is provided, highlighting alignment opportunities and risks in AI-mediated learning environments. Building on this synthesis, an AI-Aligned Pedagogical Innovation Framework is proposed, integrating learning outcomes, instructional design, assessment, teacher competencies, and ethical-contextual considerations. The framework positions pedagogical alignment as the central mediator between AI capabilities and effective teaching, offering practical guidance for educators and institutions. This study contributes a theoretically grounded roadmap for AI-enhanced teaching innovation that preserves human-centered educational values.
