Contextualizing Interventions: A Comparative Analysis of Differentiated Instruction Across Education Systems

Lilli Xiang

ABSTRACT:

Differentiated education interventions have been shown to meet students at their current level and adapt to their learning needs (Aguhayon et al., 2023; Grecu, 2023). However, the broader context of the education system can add complexity to designing effective implementation mechanisms for such interventions. This research study conducts a comparative analysis to examine the proposal and implementation of differentiated instruction in two education systems, focusing on contextualization as the key lever. Bardach’s Eightfold Path (Bardach, 2023) frames a differentiated instruction proposal delivered through a Master Trainer model in Program Anak Kita in the Malaysian context, while differentiated instruction delivered through a high-dosage tutoring model in GO Tutor Corps in the U.S. East Coast context is examined using Newark, NJ as a reference point. Audiences will be invited to reflect on the design of implementation mechanisms and aligning differentiated learning interventions with their own education contexts.
