Teaching Methods for Digital Citizenship Education for Children with Developmental Disabilities: A Focus on Related Executive Functions

ABSTRACT:

The purpose of this study is to analyze the specific components of executive function related to teachers’ instructional content and students’ learning content in digital citizenship (DC) education. Using the “What Is Responsible Posting?” from the STEAM Library (International University GLOCOM/NHK Enterprise) as the subject, we extracted subcomponents of executive function related to “student activities” and “instructional considerations” in the lesson plan. As a result, a total of 44 sub-elements were identified: working memory (11; 25.00%), cognitive flexibility (11; 25.00%), self-monitoring (9; 20.45%), planning (8; 18.18%), inhibition (4; 9.09%), and attention control (1; 2.27%). This is expected to provide insights into the appropriate approach to DC instruction that takes into account the executive function difficulties of children with developmental disorders.
