ABSTRACT:

Library of Al-Wafaa Café: An Innovative Model to Promote Professional Reading and Self-Development among Teachers

This applied study aimed to address the low engagement of teachers with the school library by designing and implementing an innovative educational initiative titled “Library of Al-Wafaa Café” in collaboration with the Learning Resources Coordinator, Ms. Lubna Sabeq. The initiative combined a professional book summarization competition with presentation sessions and professional discussions among teachers, aiming to enhance intrinsic motivation for professional reading, link theoretical knowledge to classroom practice, and develop personal skills, self-awareness, and understanding of personality types. The study employed a descriptive-analytical approach to examine the initiative’s impact on professional reading behaviors and activation of learning resources, using a teacher survey, analysis of library visitation rates, and observation of classroom instructional strategies. The results indicated a significant increase in library visits, higher levels of professional interaction among teachers, and the implementation of various modern teaching strategies. Participants expressed satisfaction with the initiative and willingness to continue participation, reflecting a positive impact on the development of professional practices. The study suggests that creating a motivating library environment can transform it from a passive resource into an active professional learning hub and enhance knowledge and experience sharing among teachers. It recommends scaling this model to other schools and integrating professional reading into school development plans to ensure sustainability.
