Teaching Scientific Research Methodologies and Techniques: Case Study

Arvydas Palevicius

ABSTRACT:

The concept of flexible learning methodology is based on the fact that second-cycle mechanical engineering students are given the opportunity to acquire the competencies provided by the module “Basics of Scientific Research” package of studies by applying the case study method.
The main goal of this module is to acquire specific methodological knowledge for technological science, so that a novice researcher can conduct theoretical and experimental research, the basics of technological science research methodology for novice researchers are discussed, allowing them to conduct theoretical and experimental research. The study of scientific methodology is usually associated with very boring texts(theory) and it is difficult to maintain students’ attention and motivation.
The conference report presents a case analysis method (model) that allows the student to delve into the material constructed in the module, choosing a path of knowledge acquisition that is acceptable to him, which leads to the acquisition of competencies. In this process, the teacher acts as a consultant helping the student choose the direction programmed in the Case Analysis object, leading to the implementation of the main goals of the module.
