ABSTRACT:
Teaching Academic Writing requires diverse pedagogical approaches to develop essential academic communication skills. Based on teaching experience at the department of English Philology of Akaki Tsereteli State University (ATSU), it is evident that “digital natives” demonstrate more engagement in the course of Academic Writing when they are offered a strategic combination of various approaches leading to targeted outcomes. This paper aims to provide a comprehensive overview of prevalent methods and their practical application that enhance instructional effectiveness and active student engagement. This study draws upon a review of established methods in Academic Writing, including Scaffolded Writing Methods, Error Correction and Feedback, Genre-based Approach, Peer review/Collaborative writing, and Free Writing. Findings of the study are reinforced by the authors’ personal experience, illustrating the practical benefits of a multifaceted teaching methodology. The most positive outcomes were observed when diverse approaches were combined, allowing for targeted skill development and increased student motivation through varied activities and scaffolded instructions. Effective academic writing instruction necessitates a flexible, integrated pedagogical framework. Educators are recommended to adopt a hybrid teaching model since judiciously blended methodologies incorporate elements from process, product, and fluency-focused approaches. Emphasizing peer and self-assessment, alongside structured exercises and opportunities for authentic writing, is crucial for fostering comprehensive academic writing proficiency in modern educational contexts.
