Gender Differences in Achievement Goals Among Undergraduate Students
Dr. Efrat Gill, Prof Dr. Ari Neuman, Prof Dr. Oz Guterman
ABSTRACT:
Achievement Goal Theory is one of the central theories for understanding differences among learners, learning processes, and differences in students’ academic achievement. Previous studies have identified differences in achievement goals across various populations. These differences have been attributed, among other factors, to cultural and educational differences. The present study focused on gender differences in this domain. The study included 200 undergraduate students in the social sciences. It examined students’ achievement goals and their academic achievement over time. The differences found in the study between men and women in achievement goals may be explained by gendered social expectations. The study presents the findings and discusses their practical implications for research in this field.
