Corporate climate Responsibility From Human Rights Perspective

Dr. Dimnwobi John Chinaza Vivian

ABSTRACT:

This paper examined corporate climate responsibility from human right perspective. The paper contextualized Nigeria’s environmental challenges, particularly in the Niger Delta, where oil pollution, gas flaring, flooding, and desertification have disproportionately affected vulnerable communities. The paper highlighted that while Nigeria had established environmental laws, constitutional provisions, and ratified international treaties recognizing environmental rights, enforcement remained weak, and remedies for victims were often limited or delayed. The paper concluded that environmental rights and climate justice in Nigeria were inadequately protected under existing frameworks. It recommended strengthening enforcement mechanisms, ensuring institutional coordination, mainstreaming climate justice in development policies, and enhancing community participation and access to remedies to align Nigeria’s legal framework with international best practices.
