Demystifying the Adaptability of Scrum in Construction Projects: Quality Implications of the Scrum-construct Model

ABSTRACT:

The quality of project delivery is a key component of the iron triangle that project managers strive to maintain, ensuring deliverables meet established standards. The linear planning approach is perceived as the traditional method of delivering construction projects. However, the potential benefits of integrating Scrum – a framework associated with the software development industry – into construction project management have been largely unexplored. This research introduces the Scrum-Construct model, a framework that adapts Scrum theory to construction projects to enhance both process quality and deliverables. Data generated from 52 project professionals across construction firms in the UK revealed that the integration of Scrum theory in construction projects significantly improves project quality. The Scrum-Construct model offers a structured method for adaptive improvement, with each Scrum event providing an opportunity for inspection, ensuring outputs are fit for purpose. Construction professionals should adopt the Scrum-Construct to achieve high-quality outcomes.
