ABSTRACT:

English language proficiency is crucial for academic and professional success in today’s globalized world. Among the various aspects of English grammar, tenses, particularly the present tense, pose a significant challenge for non-native learners such as Chinese students. This study investigates the effectiveness of using Wordwall, an interactive online game platform, to enhance English present tense learning among Chinese students. The research employs a mixed-methods approach, combining quantitative data analysis of pre-test and post-test scores as well as qualitative insights gathered through student feedback. Results indicate significant improvement in students’ understanding and usage of English present tense, suggesting that gamified learning tools like Wordwall can be effective in second language acquisition. Moreover, qualitative feedback highlights increased engagement, motivation, and enjoyment among students, indicating the potential of gamified learning to enhance positive learning attitude. This research contributes valuable insights into the effective integration of technology-enhanced learning tools to optimize language acquisition outcomes for EFL learners.
