ABSTRACT:

The study investigates the effectiveness of the JobLab teaching/learning model compared to traditional methods in an ESP (English for Specific Purposes) course. Sixty undergraduate economics and transportation students at the University of Zilina, Slovakia, were divided into an experimental group (N=30, JobLab approach) and a control group (N=30, traditional approach) during the winter term of 2023/24. A mixed-methods approach was used, including pre- and post-intervention questionnaires, knowledge tests, and presentation skill assessments. Quantitative analysis was conducted using SPSS, while qualitative data (open-ended responses, interviews) were coded and analysed with Google Analytics. Statistical methods, including Levene’s T-test and Wilcox test (Mean, SD, Z-score, Cronbach’s alpha), indicated significant improvements in the experimental group, which showed increased learning achievement, satisfaction, and motivation through active, student-centred learning and AI-supported tasks. Comparative analyses demonstrate the JobLab model’s effectiveness in enhancing presentation skills and promoting active student-centred EduTech-based learning.
