ABSTRACT:

Student-centered learning places students at the core of the educational process, encouraging them to actively participate and take responsibility for their own learning. This paradigm enables the development of critical thinking, practical skills, and adaptability, which are essential for success both in academic and professional environments. Our study examines the implementation of this paradigm in higher education from the perspective of a cognitive-constructivist understanding of the teacher’s professional development. We focus on the conceptualizations and pedagogical practices of higher education teachers in the context of process-oriented learning. In the first part of the research, we analyze their views on their own learning and professional practices when working with students, as well as their beliefs about students’ learning approaches. The key question is to what extent these conceptualizations align with the principle of process-oriented teaching, which includes the internal regulation of learning, active knowledge construction, and collaborative learning. Additionally, we examine teachers’ tolerance for uncertainty, as it influences their willingness to introduce innovative pedagogical approaches. The study offers insights into the theoretical and practical aspects of implementing the student-centered learning paradigm and sheds light on the challenges faced by higher education teachers in aligning their practices with modern pedagogical principles.
