Transforming Assessments in the Generative Ai Age

ABSTRACT:

Large language models like ChatGPT, Microsoft Copilot, and Llama have become powerful tools that can boost faculty and student productivity and learning support, but they can also undermine academic integrity by making it easier for students to submit unoriginal or automated work. This presentation will explore how a class discussion can be facilitated about AI output and the issue of “AI slop” to demonstrate the need to develop knowledge and critical thinking skills. In addition, the use of selfies/memes will be demonstrated to provide an example of an alternative assessment to help gauge true understanding while providing for creativity and application of knowledge.
