AI Competency Survey for Teachers: Survey Development based on UNESCO AI Competency Framework for Teachers
Buket Kara
ABSTRACT:
As artificial intelligence (AI) continues to revolutionize the education field, it is crucial to equip teachers with the competencies needed to effectively integrate AI into teaching and learning practices. Teachers’ competency in AI plays a pivotal role in guiding students toward its ethical use, employing it in professional development activities, and leveraging AI to design innovative teaching materials. This research aims to develop a survey to assess teachers’ AI competencies, grounded in the UNESCO AI Competency Framework for Teachers (2024). The survey adapts the framework’s five domains, providing a structured tool for policy planners, educational leaders, and administrators to address faculty development needs in their unique contexts. Piloted with 52 participants, the survey underwent rigorous reliability and validity testing to ensure its accuracy and applicability. This newly developed survey not only evaluates current AI competencies but also serves as a foundation for future research, supporting teachers in thriving within the AI-driven era of education.
