Integrating Prehistoric Art into High School Arts Education: Innovative and Sustainable Teaching Proposals
Alba García-Martínez
ABSTRACT:
The integration of prehistoric art into high school arts education offers a unique opportunity to bridge historical artistry with modern educational frameworks. This study explores innovative and sustainable approaches to embedding prehistoric art forms, such as Venus figurines, megalithic structures, and mobiliary art, into the curriculum. The research aligns with the objectives of Spain’s LOMLOE educational reform, emphasizing competencies like cultural awareness, critical thinking, and sustainability. Using a combination of project-based learning, digital technologies, and collaborative methodologies, students can engage deeply with the symbolic and functional aspects of prehistoric art while fostering creativity and ecological awareness. By linking ancient artistic practices with contemporary educational objectives and the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), this article demonstrates how prehistoric art can inspire students to explore cultural heritage and address modern challenges. The findings reveal that such pedagogical strategies not only enhance artistic skills but also encourage interdisciplinary learning and sustainable thinking.
