Integrating Generative AI and Blended Learning: Enhancing Teaching and Learning in Higher Education

ABSTRACT:

Behind positive learning experiences and outcomes is student engagement. Although the higher education sector has had extensive experience with student engagement through traditional in-person instruction, and much of which have featured strategies adaptable for different teaching and learning (T&L) contexts, there is a growing emphasis on integrating both face-to-face and online T&L activities. Indeed, there has been increased attention and examination of promoting and facilitating student engagement in blended learning environments. Through a survey of recent scholarship on blended learning and generative artificial intelligence (GenAI), this paper proposes to articulate strategies for creating effective and engaging educational experiences with a synergy of blended learning and GenAI, with which both instructors and learners can enjoy greater success in the emerging digital learning environments of higher education.
