ABSTRACT:

This study investigates the influence of social media videos on the training and acquisition of knowledge, skills and abilities by trainees pursuing a pilot license. This study examines the consequences of these videos on formal Private Pilot Licence training programmes. The study investigated three primary research questions, particularly the types of social media videos that focus on the learning by private pilot licence trainees. Additionally, the study examined the primary benefits and drawbacks of utilising social media videos as supplementary tools in pilot training. The researcher implemented the research using an interpretive approach, as it allowed for the interdependence of the subject and object through ontology. The field of epistemology in this study enables the interpretation of knowledge. Therefore, a qualitative research method was employed, where eight participants were selected through snowball sampling and interviewed using semi-structured techniques. The data obtained from the interviewees were ultimately coded into themes using a thematic methodology. The results indicated that social media videos, especially from YouTube, are valuable adjunctive resources, providing visual and practical perspectives that augment comprehension and recall of intricate ideas. Trainees gain opportunities from the adaptability and convenience of video content, enabling them to learn at their own pace and review complex subjects. Nevertheless, the study also highlights potential challenges, such as the possibility of coming across erroneous or unverified information, which can result in misunderstandings. In addition, the casual nature of social media content can occasionally compromise the thoroughness and organisation of formal training programmes. The study concludes that assimilating social media videos into private pilot training significantly improves the effectiveness of the training. However, using these videos carefully and integrating them with traditional training methods is essential to ensure that trainees acquire a thorough and accurate set of competencies.
