Impact Of  Covid-19 Pandemic on Small and Medium Enterprises (Smes) Performance in Adamawa State Nigeria

ABSTRACT:

The study examined the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on SME’s performance in Adamawa State. The study is a survey in the form of cross-sectional study in which data was collected through questionnaire administered to 100 registered SMEs in Jimeta. Data collected was subjected to percentage analysis and hypotheses were tested using regression analysis at 0.05 level of significance. The result revealed that that coefficients of the effect of Covid-19 on small and medium enterprise is statistically significant (β = 0.991, t =70.556, p< 0.05). This means that there is significant relationship between covid-19, financial performance, lockdown and small and medium enterprises in Adamawa state. The study concludes that the impact of Covid- 19 has led to the development of model and strategies, government policies, findings shows that SMEs performance is enhanced. The study therefore, recommend that decisive measures should be in place to keep and maintain businesses that are on the verge of extinction or total collapse due to effect of covid-19. Also, government should provide support to SMEs by providing monetary and fiscal policy measures and ensuring effective and efficient palliative measures should be established by the government, NGOs, and organizations. In addition, proactive plans should be put in place in anticipation of events such as COVID-19 that will most likely affect the organizations.
