Seipati Baloyi-Mothibeli
ABSTRACT:
Tension is widespread globally concerning practitioners’ mathematical play-based curriculum practice in early childhood care and education (ECCE). Therefore, their efficacy when implementing mathematical play-based curriculum practice, in shaping children when manipulating concrete mathematical objects and construct new ideas in solve mathematical play-based problems in the ECCE setting its a concern. This paper seeks to explore the efficacy of practitioners’ curriculum practice of mathematical play-based learning in the ECCE setting. The conducted in the ECCE centres, in the informal settlement in Mangaung Municipality in the Free State Province.A qualitative approached was used both semi-statured and observation were employed to collect data. Convenient sampling comprised 10 ECCE practitioners from 5 selected ECCE centres were selected to participated. All 10 practitioners were interviewed on their current efficacy of curriculum practice of mathematical play-based learning in the ECCE setting. I observed as both a participant observer and a non-participant observer in attempting to respond to the research question and thematic approach was utilised to analyse data.Practitioners seem to know and understand what was expected of them in ECCE, particularly regarding the teaching of mathematical play-based learning but they lack the skill of intergraded approach in both interviews and classroom observation.
