ABSTRACT:
The fact that e-Learning programs are booming, mainly due to the COVID-19 pandemic, is nothing new – and the trend continues as such digital programs enable participants to learn new content or acquire additional skills without the need to commit to a specific place or time. The EU-funded project “Young Refugees AI Student Empowerment Program” (RAISE) addresses the challenges of the e-Learning program e-VELP for young migrants and refugees who want to share their interests, talents, knowledge, and cultural diversity through workshops – all being free of charge and entirely voluntarily. Student evaluations made it clear that the program needs to be upgraded to be further suited to the diversity of the target group and to convince participants intrinsically of the program’s added value – increasing vocational integration and securing EU labour market opportunities. Therefore, this paper provides a comprehensive overview of the highlights and outcomes of RAISE and how Artificial Intelligence (AI) can be used to create innovative and resource-friendly educational experiences within the realm of digital learning. The paper involves insights from semi-structured expert interviews, wherein well-known experts in AI and education share their perspectives on the potential benefits and risks of e-Learning environments and further elaborate on potential AI usage.
