The Application of Virtual Reality in Teaching Chinese History

ABSTRACT:

Technology is widely used in teaching under the new paradigm. Many organizations or schools have adopted virtual reality (VR) as one of their school development projects. This study uses VR as a bridge to utilize effective strategies to enhance the teaching of Chinese history. The study was divided into two phases: the production and the use of VR teaching materials.

  1. In the stage of producing teaching materials, this study mainly uses Technological Knowledge and Content Knowledge to design VR scenes. When designing the scenes, the pre-service teachers should understand the advantages of VR (Technological Knowledge), and then tailor the applicable historical materials (Content Knowledge) to create the scripts of VR scenes.
  2. During the teaching stage, the pre-service teachers are required to use the finished VR teaching materials t to conduct trial teaching, understand the teaching objectives, values, and goals, and receive relevant training (Pedagogical knowledge) on the use of VR for teaching before the lessons.

Finally, the pre-service teachers will summarize the effective teaching methods of using VR to teach Chinese history. The study will utilize scales and interviews to summarize teachers’ effective practices.
