Young Children Cultivating Social Studies Concepts: Inquiry and Instamatic Photography in a Preschool Classroom

Brandon Gilbert

ABSTRACT:

Using instamatic photography is an appropriate way to teach because it allows children to experience a social phenomenon in its real-life context. Cameras and photographs enhanced activities and created new learning experiences with young children. They were illustrating their own stories and seeing the world from their perspectives.  This activity can also be a learning tool to encourage vocabulary, exercise storytelling skills, and explore their social investigations. Photographs taken by young children give us insight into their minds.
