Integrative Psychotherapeutic Approach PWC in the Treatment of Post-Traumatic Disorder: A Case Report Study
Elena Vasazhenko
ABSTRACT:
Post-traumatic stress reactions remain a relevant problem of modern psychotherapy, requiring the development of effective, evidence-based and integrative approaches aimed at processing traumatic experience taking into account cognitive, emotional and somatic components, as well as individual characteristics of the patient.
Objective. Description of the theoretical foundations and protocol of a new integrative psychotherapeutic method PWC, as well as analysis of its application on a clinical example with assessment of subjective and neurophysiological changes.
The PWC method represents a structured intervention including breathing regulation, focusing on bodily sensations, activation of traumatic experience, emotional-verbal expression and subsequent integration of adaptive cognitive attitudes. To assess effectiveness, the subjective distress scale (SUDS), as well as standardized questionnaires PCL-5 and GAD-7 were used. Additionally, neurophysiological assessment using QEEG and analysis of topographical distribution of brain activity was applied.
On a clinical example, a decrease in the level of subjective distress, reduction of severity of anxiety symptoms and post-traumatic reactions was demonstrated. Positive changes in subjective state were observed, as well as tendencies toward normalization of neurophysiological indicators and functional organization of brain activity.
The obtained data allow considering the PWC method as a promising integrative approach to psychotherapy of traumatic experience, contributing to improvement of emotional regulation and cognitive processing of traumatic memories. The method requires further empirical study using controlled samples, quantitative analysis and extended neurophysiological indicators.
