A Hybrid AI-Assisted Framework for Anxiety Intervention: Integrating Computational Design with Clinical Oversight

ABSTRACT:

A growing number of individuals suffering from anxiety and other mood disorders necessitate a suitable and accessible method for mental wellbeing promotion. With that in mind, this paper discusses a novel model of AI-assisted psychotherapy, that follows within the path of current literature and academic research associated with stress, mood disorders, and digital solutions for mental health.
This study proposes a human-centered approach where artificial intelligence is used to enable early and constant intervention, monitor users’ progress, and engage patients. Human therapists would play the key role of supervising and making critical decisions about treatment, based on the information gathered by AI interactions.
The primary innovation suggested in this paper is in combining three integral components of psychotherapy: (1) a flexible technological solution enabling a more effective dialog, through machine learning-based generation of personalized messages, based on the patient’s current affective state; (2) an interactive component that implements an avatar-driven messaging to create empathy with patients, encouraging trust and a strong therapeutic alliance; (3) an ethical dimension, that provides users with assurance of their data protection and timely intervention in case of psychological crises.
In terms of methodology, a model for assessing system effectiveness and performance in various areas, namely user engagement, perception of assistance and symptom reduction, is provided with a special focus on anxiety-related results.
By combining recent advances in technology and proven psychological approaches, this paper wants to contribute to the emerging research body, related to AI-supported mental healthcare. The proposed model, though preliminary, provides a structured framework ready for further empirical testing.
