Digital Maturity of Hr Departments – a Qualitative Review

ABSTRACT:

Although digital transformation is an increasingly prevalent phenomenon in various fields of activity, around human resources, it is often treated as a secondary priority. This study aims to investigate the applicability of the digital maturity model – a tool frequently used in other sectors – within the context of human resources departments. The HRBok (Human Resources Body of Knowledge) framework was used as a methodological reference, providing a reference structure for evaluating HR competencies and processes. The research was qualitative and aimed to evaluate the level of digital maturity in three different organizations, with the goal of identifying DMM varieties, their determinants, and their implications for the development of the human resources function. The results highlighted significant differences between organizations in terms of their degree of digitalization. Small companies exhibit a low level of digital maturity, determined by limited financial resources and the use of fragmented technological solutions. In contrast, large organizations invest heavily in integrated ERP systems or customized solutions that cover the entire spectrum of HR processes. However, digital maturity is not solely conditioned by the size or resources of the organization but fundamentally reflects the leadership’s strategic vision and the importance given to digital transformation within the human resources function.
