ABSTRACT:

a. Introduction:
The rapid diffusion of the Internet of Things (IoT) has transformed how individuals learn, interact, and work. As organizations increasingly depend on connected devices and data-driven workflows, differences in how generational cohorts learn and adopt IoT technologies create new challenges and opportunities. This review synthesizes existing scholarship to understand how IoT shapes generational learning behaviours and how these changes affect organizational dynamics.
b. Literature Review / Research Gap:
Existing literature widely discusses IoT adoption, digital learning, and generational differences, but these streams remain fragmented. Few studies integrate how IoT-enabled learning environments differentially influence Gen X, Millennials, and Gen Z, nor how these divergences translate into collaboration patterns, power dynamics, and decision-making in organizations. The gap lies in connecting technological learning behaviour with organizational repercussions through a generational lens.
c. Research Method:
A systematic literature review (SLR) was conducted using PRISMA guidelines. Peer-reviewed articles from 2010–2025 were collected from Scopus, Web of Science, and IEEE Xplore. Inclusion criteria required empirical or conceptual studies related to IoT, adult learning, generational behaviour, and organizational outcomes. A final set of 78 studies was thematically analysed using inductive coding.
d. Findings:
The review reveals that IoT accelerates experiential and self-directed learning, with younger cohorts showing higher adaptability and digital fluency. Older cohorts display stronger resistance due to cognitive load, perceived complexity, and privacy concerns. These generational differences influence team communication, trust in automated systems, decision-making speed, and technology-mediated collaboration. IoT-enhanced data transparency also redistributes informal power, benefiting digitally skilled employees and altering traditional hierarchies.
e. Theoretical and Practitioner Implications:
Theoretically, the study integrates generational learning theory with socio-technical systems perspectives. For practitioners, it highlights the need for differentiated digital learning strategies, cross-generational mentoring models, and inclusive IoT adoption policies that reduce emotional and cognitive barriers.
f. Limitations:
The review is limited by language restrictions (English-only sources) and the evolving nature of IoT technologies, which may render findings time-sensitive.
