Yuliya Babayeva
ABSTRACT:
The article is based on the combination of the shadowing technique and the Test – Teach – Test method in teaching pronunciation in English as a second language for the university level students. Shadowing is the process of imitating a native speaker’s speech with to engage in mimicking and internalizing correct pronunciation patterns, actively correcting pronunciation patterns. Through making observations and pre – and post – testing through a quasi – experiment, it was explored the benefits of shadowing, such as enhanced pronunciation accuracy, increased fluency, and improved intonation. Additionally, the article discussed the practical applications of shadowing in language classrooms, including a selection of appropriate materials, and the incorporation of technology to facilitate self-practice with the use of digital technologies. The challenges and limitations associated with implementing shadowing were also addressed, along with recommendations for overcoming these obstacles. Finally, this article provided valuable information about the practical aspects of using shading as an effective tool for teaching pronunciation, emphasizing its potential for a positive impact on the communicative competence of language learners and also placing emphasis on the psychological situation during the use of this method.
