Gábor Gutai

ABSTRACT:

This booming phenomenon of the 21st century called Artificial Intelligence (AI) provides a most needed fertile ground for teachers to try out new methods during the education process. So far, there have been attempts to implement AI into teaching English as a Foreign Language (EFL). This study attempts to give a brief and valid overview of the position of AI (ChatGPT and DeepL) in teaching writing by presenting the positive and negative sides of using AI in the English Classroom. As a secondary objective, this study also explores the position and reputation of AI among university students. The research was conducted at the Constantine the Philosopher University in Nitra where the students participated in an anonymous questionnaire about their opinion on AI-powered tools in teaching writing. This article also presents the challenges from the students’ perspectives, as well as possible future research directions.
