Bridging Gender Gaps in Youth Engagement: Women’s Participation in Cultural and Youth Programs in Algeria – The Case of El Anis Association
Lahbib Yasmina
ABSTRACT:
This paper explores the dynamics of women’s participation in youth and cultural programs in Algeria, with a specific focus on the experience of El Anis Association for Youth as a case study. In recent years, civil society organizations have played a crucial role in promoting gender inclusion and empowering women through structured youth initiatives. However, despite these efforts, gender disparities persist due to socio-cultural constraints, institutional limitations, and unequal access to opportunities.
The purpose of this research is to analyze the extent, forms, and impact of women’s engagement in youth-oriented programs, as well as to identify the challenges and opportunities associated with their participation. The study adopts a qualitative approach, combining field observations, program analysis, and testimonials from female participants involved in training, cultural activities, and community engagement initiatives within the association. The findings highlight that targeted training programs, leadership opportunities, and inclusive organizational strategies significantly enhance women’s participation and visibility in the public sphere. The case of El Anis Association demonstrates how local initiatives can contribute to redefining gender roles and fostering a culture of active citizenship among young women.
The paper concludes with practical recommendations aimed at strengthening gender-sensitive policies in youth work and encouraging broader institutional support for women’s inclusion in civil society programs.
