Online Tool for Generating Visual Messages to Support the Mazatec Indigenous Language Education

ABSTRACT:
At present, 97% of the world population speaks 4% of the existing languages in the world; while in the other 3% of the population the greatest linguistic diversity is concentrated with 96% of the remaining languages. Mexico is one of the countries with the greatest cultural and linguistic diversity in the American continent. However, indigenous languages are disappearing, currently only 6.1% of the Mexican population speaks an indigenous language. Therefore, the purpose of this presentation is to show an online tool that was implemented, which allows the generation of visual messages with thematic of the Mazatec culture, with the aim of developing linguistic and communication skills in the students of the mother tongue subject of primary education of the community of Huautla de Jiménez in the state of Oaxaca, Mexico. In order to create visual messages, students have different collections of settings and characters, all of them based on the most important festivity in the Mazatec culture, as well as dialogue balloons that allow students to introduce messages in the Mazatec language.
