Navigating the Landscape of E-Learning in Ugandan Universities Post-Pandemic: Lessons Learned, Challenges, and Future Directions

ABSTRACT:
The COVID-19 pandemic instigated unprecedented disruptions to traditional teaching and learning models, compelling global educational institutions, including those in Uganda, to swiftly transition to digital platforms. In response to this paradigm shift, Ugandan universities faced the imperative to adapt, resulting in the rapid adoption of e-learning methodologies. While crucial for ensuring educational continuity, this transition illuminated a spectrum of challenges and opportunities unique to the Ugandan higher education landscape. This study investigates the transformative impact of the post-COVID-19 e-learning environment in Ugandan universities, focusing on the experiences of faculty members and students. Employing a mixed-methods design comprising surveys, interviews, and academic performance data analysis, the research seeks to comprehensively explore the influences of e-learning on the teaching and learning process. Addressing a critical gap in understanding the distinctive dynamics, challenges, and opportunities specific to the Ugandan higher education system post-pandemic, the primary argument emphasizes the necessity for evidence-based recommendations to refine e-learning strategies and shape the future of higher education in Uganda. Preliminary results are anticipated to unveil challenges, lessons learned, and emerging opportunities, contributing context-specific insights to the existing literature. The implications of this study extend to informing policies, practices, and innovations, providing actionable insights that can drive effective decision-making in Ugandan universities, fostering adaptability and resilience in the evolving landscape of higher education post-pandemic.
