ABSTRACT:

This research presents the results of a pedagogical experience with a group of pre-service English language teachers focusing on Critical Perspectives at a state university in Colombia. The primary goal of this implementation was to teach the English language through contextualized lessons, equipping students not only with language proficiency but also with the ability to analyze social dynamics, demonstrate cultural sensitivity, advocate for social justice, and develop overall critical thinking skills. Data collection instruments included artifacts from pre-service teachers and written reflective logs. To analyze the experiences of pre-service teachers related to critical perspectives, grounded theory was employed to better categorize their insights. The findings of this research demonstrate that pre-service teachers are more engaged when exposed to topics related to their immediate environment. Furthermore, they show improvement in their English skills and an enhancement of their critical thinking abilities.
