Accounts of Two Women: A History of Feminine Boredom through Charulata and Parama
Tirna Chatterjee
ABSTRACT:
This paper tries to posit that boredom can be an effective tool for history writing for the part it has played in realizing the intricate relation it has with the feminine, the female question and female subjectivity. By taking two examples from cinema, the paper will show how boredom is inextricably linked to the lives of women and how boredom can be deployed to understand the history of women, specifically Bengali women and their relationship to people, society, space and time through questions of desire and leisure.
