ABSTRACT:

In order to reflect the traditional characteristics, modern architecture often adopts the local characteristics of traditional buildings for imitation and reproduction. Due to the development of society and the change of aesthetic concept, the retro design techniques cause people’s antipathy. The concept of typology is to extract the characteristics from the tradition and adapt to the needs of The Times through abstract changes. Therefore, this paper use qualitative research methods, according to the theory of architectural typology to study the prototype and type of the plane forms of Huizhou dwellings, and explore the type transformation of modern residential buildings and the spatial characteristics of Huizhou dwellings. Then the residential space is designed by topology for the inheritance and development of traditional architectural culture. The study found that the courtyard layout of Huizhou dwellings is mainly divided into four types: “凹” type, “H” type, “回” type and “日” type, and the form is composed of rooms and patios. Through the type transformation of Huizhou residential prototype and the use of topological design methods, new changes can be made in modern residential buildings. The form is much freer, the space is more open, and the function is better, which satisfies the inheritance and continuity of architectural culture.
