Developing Scale for Measuring Gossip Agenda

ABSTRACT:

In an earlier study I found that employees use gossip information to meet their personal agenda. The study was based on interviews of working executives probing them about how they use the information gathered by engaging in gossip. To empirically test the findings, I found a need for an appropriate scale to capture the intentions of the gossipers. The existing scales available in literature predominately measure one’s attitude towards gossip (Brady et al. 2017). A few scales (Foster, 2004) try to capture functions of gossip. Some focus on what people gossip about (Erdogan et al. 2015)?
This study is an attempt to fill the gap in research pertaining to workplace gossip by developing an appropriate scale to capture intentions of the gossipers. Items will be generated based on the responses of the qualitative study and existing literature. Further the items will be tested for their content validity and subsequently psychometric analysis of the scale will be carried out (Hinkin, 1995)
