ABSTRACT:

Teaching and learning has been, and remains a gargantuan part of how societies develop, survive and strive.  It is integral in every aspect of society.  Emphasis has largely been on how and what students learn, however, it is now recognized that teachers themselves are learners and learning is critical to teachers’ development and progress.  This qualitative work outlines six concepts that the author, as a new teacher, learned in the process of teaching at the University of the West Indies, Mona, and it discusses the importance of these concepts to teaching and learning in general.
