Impact of Green Human Resource Management on Employee’s Pro-Environmental Behavior: Mediating Role of Environmental Knowledge and Green Lifestyle
Amer Saeed, Haidar Abbas
Growing interest in environmental protection and sustainability is creating a new research focus in the field of human resource management (HRM). Scientists in this field are beginning to explore how HRM can make an important contribution to achieve sustainable environmental goals and coined the term “Green Human Resource Management” (GHRM). Despite the growing interest in GHRM research, few studies have examined the effects on positive employee attitudes and behaviors to reduce company’s environmental footprint and improve company’s sustainability. Therefore, the present study expanded green research to fill this research gap by examining GHRM impact on pro-environmental behavior (PEB). And to better understand the relationship between independent and dependent variables the mediating roles of environmental knowledge and green lifestyle of employees are also tested. Data were collected from the managers and officers in the manufacturing companies of Oman. Structural equation modeling (SEM) technique is used for analysis of 97 completely filled responses on Smart PLS4. Results confirms the significant positive impact of GHRM on the employee’s pro-environmental behavior and also proves that environmental knowledge and green lifestyle both partially mediates between GHRM and employee’s pro-environmental behavior. At the end conclusion, limitations and future research directions are presented.
