Introduction of Mydialogkopitiam Module: Improving Listening and Speaking Skills In Chinese as Second Language

ABSTRACT: 

At present, the enrolment of students in National Primary School mostly are Malays in learning Chinese as Second Language (CSL). This research consists two phases which is develop MyDialogKopitiam Module and evaluate the effectiveness of MyDialogKopitiam Module   towards listening and speaking skills. First phase mainly introduces MyDialogKopitiam Module for Year 4 of National Primary School in order to improve the listening and speaking skills. The design of MyDialogKopitiam Module developed based on the instructional design MRKK according to Standard Document for Curriculum and Assessment Year 4 Chinese Language promulgated by the Ministry of Education of Malaysia. Second phase of this research will evaluate 91 participants from the control group which using the conventional approach and learning materials and 99 participants from the treatment group will learned listening and speaking skills using the MyDialogKopitiam Module. The instruments used are Listening Achievement Test (LAT) and Speaking Achievement Test (SAT). The findings of the t-Test indicated that difference significantly (t = 9.521, df = 188, p = .000) between the control group and the treatment group in the achievement of LAT. Meanwhile, the findings the t-Test also revealed that there was a significant difference (t = 56.52, df = 188, p = .000) between the control group and the treatment group in the achievement of SAT. Hence, the MyDialogKopitiam Module developed is able to overcome problems in teaching and learning as well as to improve listening and speaking skills of CSL.
