Religious Freedom Bans on LGBTQIA+ Adoption

Karla Maria Steffens

ABSTRACT:

Religious Freedom Bans on LGBTQIA+ Adoption addresses the US Supreme Court decision that supported the right of religious organizations to discriminate against same-sex couples from adopting children through their agencies. It further considers the consequences of this decision on the rights of the hundreds of thousands of children who remain in foster care in the US and those of LGBTQIA+ individuals and/or couples who are ready to adopt but have since been legally denied in dozens of states across the US since the ruling. It intends to question a decision that prioritizes the rights of the church over the rights of children and of same-sex families and  further erodes the separation of church and state as established in the US Constitution and Bill of Rights.
