Race and Class: The Rise of Racial Classism Through Ideologies

Antonio Lopez

ABSTRACT:

There is some ambiguity about the original union of classism with racism. Some authors suppose that classism is simply an intersection of oppression. Other authors consider classism as a determination of The Enlightenment. Our proposal maintains that classism linked to racism is a cultural construction whose objective is to reinforce the difference between the self / other. Likewise, it is argued that a political conjuncture towards moral expansionism amplifies the reinforcement of the difference. The limits of our proposal are in consideration of classism as one social construction among others. However, it could be argued that racial classism can be considered as a permanent cultural construction.
