ABSTRACT:

The profound impact of legal gender inequalities on socio-economic development on a global scale needs to be examined- especially after the COVID-19 pandemic and its deterrence of the United Nations’ (UN) Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) Agenda for 2030. The researcher utilized data from over 185 countries sourced from the UN’s Human Development Index (HDI) and the World Bank’s Women, Business, and the Law (WBL) Index, to fill the research gap in regards to the relation between legal gender inequalities and human development. Initially a one-way ANOVA was conducted to investigate the two research questions. The first investigated whether there is a significant variation in the mobility indicator of the WBL index between high, medium, and low human development countries. The second explored the difference in the entrepreneurship indicator of the WBL index between high, medium, and low human development countries. Subsequently, post-hoc analysis revealed significant differences between these three categories. The findings revealed that there are prominent disparities and significant differences in the entrepreneurship and mobility indicators of the Women Business and the Law (WBL) Index across HDI Groups (World Bank). This study’s implications underscore the importance of legal reforms related to entrepreneurship and mobility in promoting gender equality and economic development to advance and sustain human development globally.
