Climate Resilience in Greek SMEs: The Role of Dynamic Capabilities and Environmental Context

ABSTRACT:

This study examines the relationships between the external environment of Greek SMEs—particularly environmental dynamism and hostility—internal organizational factors such as dynamic capabilities, and climate resilience outcomes reflected in firms’ environmental and financial performance. Using structural equation modeling (SEM) on a sample of 163 firms, the findings identify dynamic capabilities as the primary driver of climate resilience, outweighing the influence of external environmental pressures. Climate resilience is found to have a significant positive effect on environmental performance, while its relationship with financial performance is not statistically supported. Mediation analyses further demonstrate that dynamic capabilities enhance environmental performance both directly and indirectly through the development of climate resilience capacities. These findings contribute substantially to the literature related to sustainability and green practices. The article discusses the practical implications of the findings along with potential limitations and suggestions for future research.
