Proactive Work of Community Hospitals to Improve the Quality of Life of Farmers in The Area: A Case Study from Thailand
Dr. Supawadee Khunthongjan, Suntharee T. Chaisumritchoke
ABSTRACT:
Community hospitals in Thailand face increasing patient demand, physician shortages, and limited budgets. This study explored proactive strategies used by community hospitals through qualitative interviews with farmers, healthcare workers, volunteers, and government officials. Findings showed three key approaches: promoting herbal plant cultivation for self-reliance, educating communities about preventing non-communicable diseases, and collaborating with local health networks and community organizations. These initiatives improved health awareness, encouraged behavioral change, reduced healthcare costs, and generated additional income for farmers through medicinal plant production. The results demonstrate how community-based healthcare strategies can improve quality of life while reducing hospital expenses and supporting sustainable local development.
