Reassessing the Role of the Sustainability Expert: A Job Market Analysis from Finland

ABSTRACT:

In the last decades sustainability has become a prominent theme in global policy and corporate strategy. Despite the widespread adoption of “green” initiatives, questions remain regarding their authenticity and effectiveness. This study examines the role of individuals designated as “sustainability experts” by analysing job postings in Finland with the aim to assess whether the expectations outlined in these roles are realistically achievable by a single professional or whether they primarily serve as symbolic representations of organizational commitment to sustainability.
