Green Finance for Supply Chain Transition: Evidence from Systematic Literature Review

Dr. Sumedha Bhatnagar

ABSTRACT:

Green financing refers to the financial instruments and mechanism that channel investment capital towards environmentally sustainable activities such as carbon emission reduction, environment protection and climate change mitigation and adaptation. In recent years the countries have taken numerous initiatives in identifying the green practices and developing the taxonomy. Adoption of green financing practices influence the supply chain and logistics operations in various sectors. Despite the rising attention towards green finance and green supply chain management, limited studies have explored the financing and investing strategies to promote green transformation of supply chain. Present study attempts to review green financing and investment mechanisms adopted to support sustainable supply chain transformation. Bibliometric analysis and systematic literature review (SLR) is conducted to identify the practices, sectors and countries that are actively providing green financing and actively investing in facilitating sustainable transformation of supply chain management system. SPAR-4-SLR (Scientific Procedures and Rationales for Systematic Literature Reviews) protocol is employed to identify 80 relevant peer-reviewed articles from Scopus database published in the timeframe of 2004-2026. The findings present the internal and external factors influencing green financing in supply chain management, various strategies and outcomes of greening the supply chain. The significantly influencing factors include government support, management experience and awareness, cost reduction and investment returns. The findings indicate that adoption of green financing practices contributes to enhanced operation efficiency, productivity, market access and realization of green premiums. The results of the study are illustrated through bibliometric analysis, thematic analysis of author keywords and conceptual framework developed from SLR. The study is limited to the evidences derived from SLR. Further studies may validate the proposed framework using statistical and econometric techniques across sectors and economies. Statistical and econometric techniques can be applied to check validity of the model.
