ABSTRACT:

Background: As artificial intelligence (AI) becomes increasingly integrated into higher education, adaptive learning platforms offer significant promise for personalizing instruction and enhancing engagement. However, challenges remain regarding ethical use, data privacy, and equitable access, especially in diverse educational settings. In nursing education, there is a growing need to ensure that students not only understand AI technologies but also apply them responsibly.
Purpose: This quasi-experimental pre-post study investigates the effectiveness of a targeted educational intervention in enhancing nursing students’ AI literacy and ethical awareness. It focuses on students from diverse international backgrounds, aiming to (a) identify key factors influencing AI understanding and (b) evaluate changes in knowledge, attitudes, and behavioral intentions post-intervention.
Methods: The study includes a pre-survey, a 50-minute recorded educational session, and a post-survey. Topics include AI tools (e.g., ChatGPT, Copilot), ethical considerations (e.g., plagiarism, data privacy), and real-world nursing applications. Interactive discussions facilitate reflection and critical thinking. Survey items were validated by expert reviewers and piloted for reliability (Cronbach’s alpha = 0.755). Data collection is ongoing and will conclude by October 2025.
Results: Study in data analysis phase. we will have results ready by the conference time frame. Quantitative data will be analyzed using paired t-tests and ANOVA (p < 0.05) to assess changes in AI knowledge and ethical awareness. Qualitative data from open-ended responses will be thematically analyzed to capture student reflections and perceptions.
Implications: This study addresses an urgent need in health professions education to prepare students for ethical engagement with AI. Findings will inform curriculum development and policy to support AI-integrated, ethical-conscious healthcare education worldwide.
